This price is appropriate since the product is very well built. I liked the design. We’ve been using it for 2 months and it still looks like brand new. It is inconvenient to use due to the size. I am going to get something different next time. The material is incredibly nice to the touch. It has a great color, which will suit any wallpapers.

Composition Notebooks Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy composition notebooks, right? No!

Laptop Buying Guide: What to look for when laptop shopping

Choosing a new laptop is a lot harder than it should be. Every major brand has multiple product lines with overlapping prices and features, and every description is filled with jargon about processors, types of storage, graphics capabilities, screen resolutions and a laundry list of ports and connections. And don’t even get me started on names. Good luck figuring out the meaning behind a Pavilion/Inspiron/XPS/Latitude/Spectre/Envy/ZenBook/Odyssey or any of the others. It’s enough to make you go back to a no. pencil and a composition book.

That’s why we test and review dozens of traditional laptops every year, plus Windows tablets and 2-in-hybrids, and even Chromebooks. This handy buying guide will give you the basic background info you need to add context to those reviews and to make a smart purchase. Of course, if you’re looking to just jump right in, I’ve preselected a handful of my favorite current laptops to highlight. If you ran into me on the street, I’d probably steer you towards one of these as a starting point.

Travel light

The first question I have when someone asks, “What kind of laptop should I buy?” is this: How many days per week do you plan on carrying your laptop around with you?

Daily or near-daily commutes mean you want something with a 13-inch or smaller display, that weighs under three pounds and is at most around 15mm thick. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro just hits those specs, while systems like the HP Spectre and Acer Swift both dip below 10mm thick.

Putting Research to Work

Fay learned that traditional marbling dates back to 98CE in China, and was used during the 12th century in Japan and 15th century in Turkey, all the way up to the 16th century in Holland. It then spread throughout Western Europe in the mid-1600s. Fay discovered that the process of pseudo marbling had been documented as early as the late 1820s to early 1830s in Annonay, France. F.M. Montgolfier created pseudo marbling at his family paper mill. Fay believes that similar processes were probably happening in Germany at the same time, although much less has been documented about that.

Know when it’s dry

This purple glue lets you see where you apply it but dries clear.

After testing four leading glue sticks, we like Elmer’s Disappearing Purple School Glue Sticks best. They’re cheap, good at sticking stuff to other stuff, and simple to work with. As we discovered, the colored glue isn’t just a gimmick; it’s actually worth the minimal extra cost. The Elmer’s glue applies as an easy-to-see purple and gradually turns colorless, so you can tell which areas you’ve already glued.

We tested our sticks (Elmer’s Washable All Purpose, Elmer’s Disappearing Purple, the clear UHU stic, and the color UHU stic) by making rudimentary construction-paper art projects, gluing dimes and nickels to a piece of paper and suspending it from the bottom of a kitchen cupboard. We also uncapped each stick to see if any would dry out. All of the glues performed well; paper stuck to paper, and even after five days no nickels and dimes fell down from underneath my cupboard. (I’m still waiting.) After sitting uncapped for 1hours, each glue stick did dry out a bit, but chopping the dried ends off made them usable again.

The color UHU stic’s color-changing option was not as great as the Elmer’s. Although it applied well and did a fine job of gluing, its purple hue turned colorless much too quickly, negating the benefits of using tinted glue. —AK

Buying a stand-alone calculator is hard to justify these days when every phone has a capable one built in and Wolfram Alpha is easier to use than any graphing calculator. If you need a graphing calculator, typically your school will tell you which one to buy. But if you want a scientific calculator for use during exams where graphing calculators are prohibited, or if you simply love the feel of real buttons, we recommend the Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro because it has all the standard scientific-calculator functions (exponents, roots, scientific notation, etc.) and can solve for equations the way they appear in the textbook—no specialized notation for you to memorize. That makes it a great pick for students.

Out of the nine calculators we considered, the TI-36X Pro was the most user-friendly model approved for the NCEES FE exam—an essential criterion for engineering students. This gives it an edge over the otherwise comparable Sharp EL-W516XBSL. The Casio fx-11is another fine calculator, especially if you prefer stiffer buttons. But most people who are familiar with TI’s graphing-calculator interface (that is, anyone who has taken a calculus course lately) will find the TI-36X’s interface more familiar and easier to use. —Michael Zhao

Find Your Capsize

While average size wigs tend to fit about 95% of customers, you will find that quite a few wigs also come in petite and large sizes. Consider that many also have adjustable straps that give up to 1/2″ so that you can achieve a comfortable and secure fit.

To determine the right size wig for you, measure the circumference of your head from the front hairline, behind your ear, to the nape of your neck, to your other ear and then back to the front hairline. Jot down your measurement, then consult the table below. Please note that sizes may vary slightly by brand and that not all wigs are available in all cap sizes.

Graphic design

Inspiring and revealing must-have books for graphic designers.

There are, of course, classic books from the great names of graphic design, but there are also plenty of books you might be less familiar with. Whether you’d like to know more about logos, go further with type, or get to know more about your favourite graphic designers, this list of great books for graphic designers has something for you.

A Designer’s Art probes the process of graphic design

Heralded by many as one of the fathers of modern branding, Paul Rand has several inspiring books to his name. Design, Form and Chaos is unfortunately out of print, but if you can track down a copy it’s worth it to immerse yourself in his talent for simplicity, and to explore the thinking behind some of his best-known identities.

A Designer’s Art, meanwhile, probes more deeply into the process of graphic design in general: why it’s important; the impact it can have on society; what works, what doesn’t, and most importantly, why.

An ode to the neon colour palette

Picking the right colour palette for your design work is always a difficult decision. Whilst some favour the more understated, others opt for the bold and bright. This beautiful 296-page book showcases the applications of fluorescent colours in the design world, examining where they work best.

Including branding, interior design, and fashion, a total of 1loud and colourful projects, by designers across the globe, are featured.

Keeping a science notebook encourages students to record and reflect on inquiry-based observations, activities, investigations, and experiments. Science notebooks are also an excellent way for students to communicate their understanding of science concepts, and for teachers to provide students with feedback.

Strategy

Introduce the use of science notebooks with children’s books that are based on the notebooks, journals, diaries, and records of scientists appropriate for each grade level. Discuss the books with students using reader response questions and prompts to engage them. Then model how to use a science notebook before, during, and after classroom science experiences, observations, and investigations.

A template can be used with students on a classroom chart, poster, or overhead transparency, with an individual copy for each student that includes the parts of a notebook — including places where students can formulate and develop their questions, make predictions, record observational data, describe procedures and results, write thoughtful reflections, and keep a record of the new concepts they are learning.

While each teacher will differentiate science notebook organization according to the grade level, interests, abilities, and individual needs of their students, here are the parts of science notebooks frequently used by teachers:

Glossary

There are several ways to make science notebooks: in a composition book, a spiral notebook, a three ring binder with loose leaf paper and section dividers, or in a three-prong paper folder.

Writing frames can be provided for students to begin their entries, and they can bevaried by grade level. For example:

Technology

Students can also word process notes and use drawing functions and other types of graphics on programs like Word, such as charts, graphs, tables, and so on. Older and more advanced students could keep an online science notebook and create a blog so other students in the class could

Composition scheme

The composition scheme that was widely followed by state VAT departments has been adapted as Section of the Model GST Law. In the composition scheme, small businesses pay a percentage of their annual turnover as tax. The concept is not new, and was adopted by businesses that signed up for VAT.

A few important things to know about the composition scheme:

Signing up for the composition scheme will likely make things easy for small businesses and also keep them out of the list of tax defaulters.

Converting a Normal Dealer to a Composition Dealer

When a business moves from the normal GST scheme to the composition scheme, it must pay an amount equal to its available input credit. The input credit will be calculated based on the amount of input materials held in stock, as well as semi-finished and finished goods.

Converting a Composition Dealer to a Normal Dealer

On the other hand, when a business that has been paying composition tax wishes to switch to the normal tax scheme, it becomes eligible to take a tax credit. The credit will be calculated based on input held in stock as well as semi-finished and finished goods.

GST return for the composition scheme

Businesses that have registered for the composition scheme will need to file, a quarterly return specifically designed for compounding dealers. The return for a particular quarter should be filed on or before the 18th of the month following that quarter. accounting software

What’s the smart way to shop for school supplies? Eliminate the guesswork by getting a list from your child’s teacher ahead of time or waiting until school starts to find out what’s actually required. The teacher may recommend specific brands, sizes or quantities, but even if the list isn’t available, you can still take advantage of back-to-school sales (many states offer “tax-free days” during this season) by sticking to the basics recommended below. And remember, you can’t go wrong with tools that help kids get — and stay — organized.

Three-ring binder*

Pocket folders* (If you get a folder with two pockets, label one “keep at home” and the other “bring back to school” to help your child organize his papers.)

Box for storing items (Teachers recommend one that’s 8 x 5 inches and 2 inches deep to hold pencils, crayons, erasers and scissors.)

Highlighters* (These are probably unnecessary for kids in kindergarten through second grade.)

Index cards, ruled and unruled (for making flash cards)

A sturdy, supportive backpack (Some schools do not permit rolling backpacks because of space considerations, so check with your school before purchasing one.)

Craft materials Dioramas and other 3-D projects provide a hands-on learning experience for students. Most teachers recommend having these items available:
